Hunter Rifle silhouette is a casual and fun shooting
activity designed for the informal shooter. There are 2 courses, high power
(center fire) and rim fire. The game allows a shooter to use any hunting or
plinking rifle excluding magnum calibers, 22 magnums or 17 rim fires. The goal
is knock down as many of the steel silhouettes (chickens, pigs, turkeys and
rams) as possible within the restrictions of 5 shots per bank and 1 minute of
time.
The game consists of 20 total rounds being fired. The shooter shoots 5 rounds at
each of 4 different banks of targets. The ranges for center fire are 50, 100,
150 and 200 meters. The rim fire shooter shoots at 25, 50 75 and 100 yards. Any
action type (bolt, single shot, semi auto, lever) is allowed and a shooter may
complete with either iron or scope sights. No sight adjustments are allowed
between banks. Slings are also allowed and scopes cannot be set at higher than 6
power. Given sufficient competitors in each class the top shooter earns a medal
for the class. Summary score sheets are sent to each competitor after the match.
Hunter rifle Silhouette is a great way to meet your fellow club members, talk
shooting while giving you a reason to take your favorite, or neglected hunting
/plinking rifle out of the closet. There are generally 3 matches each year held
in March, April and May. Please check the Powderhorn for specific dates and
times. The match is open to all DBCL members and their guests. For further
information please contact the Hunter Rifle Silhouette Director, found in the
Powderhorn.
