The DBCL HRS match is open to DBCL members and non-members. There are eight events. Attend all or as few dates as you like, as this is not a league.

All dates: 8:00 am set-up, 9:00 am start, 2:00 pm match over, 2:30 pm range clear.

Hunter Rifle Silhouette Match - held on the 100/200 Yard Range
The Hunter Rifle Silhouette / Prairie Dog Match is a casual shooting activity. It is a great way to enjoy the DBCL facility, meet your fellow club members, engage in friendly competition, and mentor a young or new shooter. Dust off your favorite or neglected hunting or plinking rifle and enjoy the day.
Silhouette Targets
Standard NRA Rifle Silhouette Targets are placed at 4 distances:
Rim fire rifle targets: Chicks @ 25, Pigs @50, Turkeys @75 and Rams @100 (yards)
Center fire rifle targets: Chicks @ 50, Pigs @100, Turkeys @150 and Rams @200 (meters)
Course of fire for each Match
Hunter Rifle Silhouette (HRS)
The shooter is allowed one shot at each silhouette target and up to 3 minutes for the five targets at each distance. All targets except 200 meter are shot OFF-HAND. 200 meter targets may be shot off-hand, sitting, kneeling or prone with no external support.
Match score: total number of silhouettes down. (4 sets of 5 targets, = 20 rounds fired)
Prairie Dog (PD)
This is a simulated Prairie Dog shoot, shot from any shooting position (sitting, prone, bench, etc.) Shooting sticks, bipod and blocks/bags allowed. The shooter is allowed one shot at each of the 5 silhouette targets at each distance, shot continuously from nearest to farthest distance.
Match score: total number of silhouettes down and total time. (4 sets of 5 targets, = 20 rounds fired).
Double Dog Dare Match ( DDD or D3)
This is an extended simulated Prairie Dog shoot, shot while standing, prone or seated at a bench. Shooting sticks, bipod or blocks/bags allowed. The shooter is allowed one shot at one set of 5 silhouette targets at each distance, shooting continuously from nearest to farthest distance, a required magazine change/reload, then shooting the second set of 5 silhouette targets at 4 distances returning from farthest to nearest.
Match score: total number of silhouettes down and total time. (8 sets of 5 targets, = 40 rounds fired).
Firearms Allowed
Any hunting or plinking rifle calibers. (see ammunition allowed below) Any action types (bolt, single shot, semi auto, or lever) are allowed. You may compete with either iron sights, dot or scope. Rifle Slings are allowed.
Ammunition Allowed
Any hunting or target ammunition with a maximum 3200 Foot Pounds muzzle energy is allowed for rifle calibers. Please check you ammo specification muzzle energy is compliant.
NOTICE! NO PENETRATING AMMO AND NO MAGNUM CALIBERS due to silhouette DAMAGE!
Range officer commands
- "Shooter to the line" - Move into position at the shooting station with firearm and ammunition
- "You May Load" - Load your magazine or insert round(s)
- "Shooter Ready?" - Acknowledge you are ready or request more preparation time
- "Standby" - Raise firearm to shooting position and aim
- "FIRE" - Begin firing
- "CEASE FIRE" - STOP firing and keep muzzle pointed downrange
- "Unload and show clear" - Remove magazine, Completely unload firearm of all ammunition, lock or leave action open, and show clear
- "Flag and Rack your Firearm" - Place chamber flag in firearm, RACK firearm.
- "Re-Set Targets" - After Range Bell / Lights are on, RO commands "Re-set targets". If you are able, assistance with target reset is appreciated.
Match Safety
All DBCL Facility Use and Safety Policies Procedures will be in effect. Chamber flags are required in all firearms unless on the firing line. Eye and Ear protection are REQUIRED for everyone, including spectators, unless range bell is on. We are shooting steel targets.
Additional Match Specific Safety Guidance
- Firing line must be clear of personal, and firearms removed or flagged before Range Bell is ON.
- Firing line must remain clear of personal while Range Bell is ON. No handling of any uncased firearms allowed when Range Bell is ON.
- Firearms may only be loaded at firing line at the command of the range officer(s). You may load external magazines if you are behind RED line while Range Bell is ON. Magazines (external) must be removed from firearms until range officer gives command to load.
- After shooting, remain at the line until your firearm is verified clear by a range officer and flagged.
- Any firearms or ammunition that range officer(s) deems unsafe will be removed from event.
- All decisions of range officer(s) are final.
